Key Responsibilities:

  1. Harvesting Apples:
    • Identifying ripe apples ready for picking based on color, size, and firmness.
    • Using ladders, picking poles, or other equipment to reach apples at various heights.
    • Handling apples carefully to avoid bruising or damaging the fruit.
    • Sorting apples into designated containers or bins according to size, variety, and quality standards.
    • Working quickly and efficiently to maximize productivity during peak harvest times.
  2. Quality Control:
    • Inspecting apples for blemishes, insect damage, or other imperfections that may affect quality.
    • Discarding damaged or spoiled apples to maintain the overall quality of the harvest.
    • Following instructions from supervisors regarding specific quality standards and sorting criteria.
  3. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries while working in the orchard.
    • Using proper lifting techniques and equipment to avoid strain or injury when handling heavy containers of apples.
    • Following food safety regulations and hygiene practices to prevent contamination of the fruit during harvesting.
  4. Teamwork:
    • Collaborating with other apple pickers and farm workers to ensure efficient harvest operations.
    • Communicating effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and share relevant information.
    • Assisting with other orchard tasks as needed, such as pruning, thinning, or general maintenance.
