Responsibilities:
- Measure, cut, and install drywall panels according to project specifications.
- Apply joint compound, tape seams, and finish surfaces to create smooth and seamless joints.
- Perform sanding, smoothing, and texturing of surfaces to prepare for painting or wallpapering.
- Repair and replace damaged drywall as needed, ensuring structural integrity.
- Use hand and power tools effectively and safely for cutting, fastening, and finishing drywall.
- Collaborate with the construction team to ensure proper alignment and adherence to project timelines.
- Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience as a Drywall Mechanic or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in measuring, cutting, and installing drywall with precision.
- Knowledge of drywall materials, joint compounds, and finishing techniques.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Physical strength and stamina to handle heavy drywall panels and work in various environments.
Tasks
- Apply successive coats of compound and sand seams and joints
- Apply, level and smooth coats of plaster
- Clean and prepare surfaces
- Cure freshly plastered surfaces
- Cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners
- Fill joints, nail indentations, holes and cracks with joint compound using trowel and broad knife
- Finish corners and angles and create decorative designs in finish coat, if required
- Measure, cut, fit and install drywall sheets
- Mix plaster ingredients to desired consistency
- Mould and install ornamental plaster panels, cornices and trim
- Position and secure sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists
- Smooth out excess compound and allow coat to dry
- Tape over joints using taping machine and embed tape in compound
- Attach metal or gypsum lath to studs or furring
- Cut openings in lath for heating and ventilation piping, ducts and electrical outlets
- Install exterior and interior steel studs
- Install vapour barriers and thermal and sound insulation
- Prepare wall and ceiling layouts
- Utilize laser alignment system
- Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages
- Erect and install scaffolding, falsework and other working platforms
