Responsibilities:

  • Measure, cut, and install drywall panels according to project specifications.
  • Apply joint compound, tape seams, and finish surfaces to create smooth and seamless joints.
  • Perform sanding, smoothing, and texturing of surfaces to prepare for painting or wallpapering.
  • Repair and replace damaged drywall as needed, ensuring structural integrity.
  • Use hand and power tools effectively and safely for cutting, fastening, and finishing drywall.
  • Collaborate with the construction team to ensure proper alignment and adherence to project timelines.
  • Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Drywall Mechanic or in a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in measuring, cutting, and installing drywall with precision.
  • Knowledge of drywall materials, joint compounds, and finishing techniques.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Physical strength and stamina to handle heavy drywall panels and work in various environments.

Tasks

  • Apply successive coats of compound and sand seams and joints
  • Apply, level and smooth coats of plaster
  • Clean and prepare surfaces
  • Cure freshly plastered surfaces
  • Cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners
  • Fill joints, nail indentations, holes and cracks with joint compound using trowel and broad knife
  • Finish corners and angles and create decorative designs in finish coat, if required
  • Measure, cut, fit and install drywall sheets
  • Mix plaster ingredients to desired consistency
  • Mould and install ornamental plaster panels, cornices and trim
  • Position and secure sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists
  • Smooth out excess compound and allow coat to dry
  • Tape over joints using taping machine and embed tape in compound
  • Attach metal or gypsum lath to studs or furring
  • Cut openings in lath for heating and ventilation piping, ducts and electrical outlets
  • Install exterior and interior steel studs
  • Install vapour barriers and thermal and sound insulation
  • Prepare wall and ceiling layouts
  • Utilize laser alignment system
  • Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages
  • Erect and install scaffolding, falsework and other working platforms
