Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Development:
   • Design and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities based on the needs and interests of young children.
   • Foster a stimulating learning environment that promotes exploration, creativity, and critical thinking.
   • Integrate various learning domains, including cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and language development into daily activities.
2. Child Supervision and Care:
   • Provide attentive and nurturing care to children, ensuring their safety, health, and well-being at all times.
   • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, transitions, meals, and rest periods.
   • Respond promptly to children’s needs, including feeding, diapering, toileting, and comforting as required.
3. Social-Emotional Support:
   • Encourage positive social interactions and foster the development of social skills, empathy, and cooperation among children.
   • Implement strategies to manage challenging behaviors effectively and promote conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
   • Provide emotional support and guidance to children, building trusting relationships and promoting a sense of security.
4. Parent Communication:
   • Establish open and collaborative communication with parents/guardians, providing regular updates on their child’s progress, activities, and achievements.
   • Encourage parent involvement in the classroom and participate in parent-teacher conferences, meetings, and workshops as needed.
5. Observation and Assessment:
   • Conduct ongoing observations and assessments of children’s development and learning, documenting milestones, strengths, and areas for growth.
   • Use assessment data to individualize instruction, set goals, and plan interventions to support each child’s unique needs.
6. Professional Development:
   • Stay current with best practices, research, and trends in early childhood education by participating in professional development opportunities, workshops, and training sessions.
   • Maintain relevant certifications and credentials as required by licensing regulations and professional standards.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
• Relevant certifications, such as Child Development Associate (CDA) or Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification, preferred.
• Experience working with young children in a childcare or early learning setting.
• Knowledge of child development theories, early childhood education principles, and best practices.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young children and supporting their growth and development.

Tasks

• Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
• Storytelling
• Assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
• Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest
• Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records
• Encourage children to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
• Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts
• Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
• Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
• Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
• Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings
• Knowledge of licensing regulations
• Establish guidelines for behaviour
• Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
• Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
• Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
• Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
• Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
