A Fruit & Vegetable Farm Worker is responsible for assisting in the cultivation, harvesting, and maintenance of fruits and vegetables on a farm. They perform a variety of tasks to ensure the successful growth, harvesting, and packaging of produce according to quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Crop Cultivation:
    • Planting, transplanting, and caring for fruit and vegetable crops according to seasonal schedules.
    • Irrigating, fertilizing, and applying pesticides or herbicides as needed to promote plant growth and control pests and diseases.
    • Monitoring crop health and growth progress, identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
  2. Harvesting and Packing:
    • Harvesting fruits and vegetables at peak ripeness using appropriate tools and techniques to minimize damage.
    • Sorting, grading, and packing harvested produce based on size, color, and quality standards.
    • Operating machinery for washing, sorting, and packaging fruits and vegetables for storage or shipment.
    • Ensuring that harvested produce is handled and stored properly to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
  3. Weed and Pest Control:
    • Removing weeds manually or using mechanical tools to prevent competition for nutrients and space.
    • Monitoring for signs of pest infestation and implementing control measures such as traps, barriers, or biological controls.
    • Keeping records of pesticide applications and adhering to safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
  4. General Maintenance:
    • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness throughout the farm premises, including fields, packing sheds, and storage areas.
    • Repairing fences, irrigation systems, and other farm infrastructure as needed.
    • Assisting with equipment maintenance and repairs to ensure proper functioning.
    • Participating in farm improvement projects, such as land clearing, soil preparation, or construction.
  5. Quality Assurance:
    • Following food safety and quality assurance protocols to ensure that produce meets regulatory standards and customer requirements.
    • Conducting quality checks on harvested produce to identify any defects or abnormalities.
    • Reporting any quality issues or concerns to supervisors and implementing corrective actions as needed.
