Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation:
- Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping, and filling cracks, holes, and imperfections to ensure smooth and even application of paint.
- Remove old paint, rust, or debris from surfaces using scrapers, sandblasters, or chemical solvents as necessary.
- Painting Operations:
- Select and mix paints, stains, or varnishes to match colors and finishes specified by clients, architects, or designers.
- Apply paints and coatings to surfaces using brushes, rollers, or sprayers, ensuring proper coverage, thickness, and texture according to project requirements.
- Finish Application:
- Apply decorative finishes such as stencils, faux finishes, or textured coatings to walls, ceilings, or furniture to create visual effects or mimic natural materials.
- Seal and protect surfaces with clear coats, sealants, or waterproofing materials to enhance durability and resistance to weather, moisture, or UV damage.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Clean and maintain painting tools, equipment, and supplies, including brushes, rollers, sprayers, and mixing machines, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Store and organize paint, solvents, and other materials in accordance with safety regulations and manufacturer recommendations.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents, injuries, or exposure to hazardous materials, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, gloves, and goggles.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and disposal procedures for paint waste, solvents, and other hazardous substances.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a painting apprenticeship program or vocational training is preferred.
- Proven experience as a painter or paint technician in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.
Skills:
- Proficiency in surface preparation techniques, paint application methods, and finish coatings.
- Knowledge of paint types, color mixing, and matching techniques.
- Attention to detail and ability to work meticulously to achieve high-quality finishes.
- Physical stamina and strength to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods and work in various weather conditions.
Tasks
- Prepare, clean and sand surfaces to be painted
- Repair cracks and holes
- Mix paint to desired colour and texture
- Measure, cut and apply wallpaper and other fabric to walls
- Advise consumers on colours and choice of wall coverings
- Erect scaffolding and swing stages and attach rigging
- Apply paint, wallpaper and other materials and finishes to interior and exterior surfaces
